Finance

Initially there is no cost to join Tadley Scouts because the group gives all new potential members 4 weeks of activities for free. This gives you a chance to see if you like Scouting and want to continue with the group.

If after this initial free period you wish to continue as a member of the group you will be required to do / set up a few things:

  • As a member of the group you will be expected to wear a uniform, you can find out more about what this is, the cost and where to buy it on the Uniform section of the Getting started page.
  • Pay a one off fee of £10, this fee covers the cost of your group necker, necker badge and other uniform badges which will be presented to you at your investiture.
  • Set up a monthly subscription payment of £10, this payment includes the annual membership fee.
  • Sign a Gift Aid form if you are able to / or inform the group that you are unable to complete the form.

The monthly membership subscription (for all 12 months of the year) covers the cost of equipment, badges awarded and running costs of the group. There is also an annual membership fee paid to UK Scout Headquarters, District & County for the day-to-day running of The Scout Association which includes insurance of all members.

Additional Information

Other Costs
Activities, sleepovers, camps or day activities / trips can be an extra cost.

You will be given plenty of notice for such events and details of additional payments required.

Any replacement badges, neckers and woggles will be charged at cost.
Gift Aid
Gift Aid is a simple government initiative, which allows the group to increase the value of your donations (monthly subscriptions) at no extra cost to you. For every pound given we can claim an extra 25 pence from HM Revenue & Customs, helping your donations go further. This will really help the group’s finances, it can equate to an additional £30 a year per member.

To donate in this way you must pay an amount of income tax or capital gains tax at least equal to the tax we claim. You can cancel this donation at any time by notifying the Treasurer ([email protected]).
Financial Help
We appreciate that money can sometimes be tight. If you need a bit of help with the cost of a camp or if you want to spread the payments, then please discuss this with one of the Leaders or the Treasurer. We aim to be as flexible as possible and would rather know in advance if there are any concerns. We would never want to see somebody excluded from an activity due to the cost involved.

You can also speak to a Leader or the Treasurer about setting up a Personal activities fund for your child that you can pay into regularly which can then be used to pay for activities as they come up and you give consent for your child to attend and payment to be taken from your activities fund. At the end of your time scouting in the group, any surplus funds in your activity fund would be returned to you.
Fundraising
The group actively runs / helps with a number of fundraising events, we are always looking for parental / guardian support at these events. Whether it is helping to set up / helping to run stalls or just attending and taking part in the activity all help is always most welcome.

We also have a couple of fundraising schemes that run throughout the year:
Recycle with Michael – is in partnership with the Salvation Army and we ask you at certain times of the year to bring in any clothing items / shoes that can be recycled, through this scheme we receive 50% of the funds raised from our donations. Click on the logo below to find out more details.

Easyfundraising – is an online shopping app that enables the group to receive contributions from sellers for any purchases you make with them as long as you have accessed their online store via the easyfundraising app / website. It is easy to register and doesn’t cost you a penny. Click on the logo below to find out more details and sign up.

We also apply for grants from a number of sources to help fund a range of projects, from offsetting the cost of activities / camps etc. to members or providing new equipment for the group to access and use.
